Omega-3 Fatty Acid (DHA) Prevents Brain Injury.

There has been research supporting the use of omega-3 supplements after a brain injury, as well as research for the use of omega-3 supplements to prevent brain diseases such as Alzheimers. Until recently, however, it has not been shown that omega-3 supplements taken as a preventative measure could also reduce damage caused by brain injury.

A recent animal study has shown that omega-3 fatty acid (DHA) that is given prior to an injury reduces the damage caused after the injury. The highest dose group (40 mg/kg) showed the most improvement after injury. This provides strong support for the use of omega-3 supplements as a preventative measure for traumatic brain injury.
