Former resident receives Voices in Prevention Speaker of the Year award
During the 2006 International Neurosurgical and ThinkFirst conference in San Francisco on April 21 through 25, Darcy Wilkinson Keith of Fishers was presented with the national VIP (Voices in Prevention) Speaker of the Year award. Keith is one of the local VIPs for the Indianapolis THINK FIRST Chapter at Clarian Health.
Selected from speakers across the country and globe, Keith was recognized for demonstrating ThinkFirst excellence ranging from her outstanding injury prevention message in public schools, to her presentations of inspiration, hope, and achievement for corporate, legislative, community, and religious organizations.
ThinkFirst is an international injury prevention organization with over 200 chapters in the United States and 53 international chapters in 22 countries. The ThinkFirst award-winning public education program targets children and teens, who are at high risk for these devastating injuries. The message is that you can have a fun-filled, exciting life, without hurting yourself if you “ThinkFirst” and use your mind to protect your body.
The ThinkFirst VIPs are individuals that have sustained a traumatic brain or spinal cord injury and share their personal testimony with students and community members to encourage and offer a message that transforms their lives from cautionary tales into inspiring stories of courage. Keith sets aside up to two weeks of her personal vacation time to make these classroom appearances. She works fulltime as a commercial underwriter at State Auto Insurance Company.
