White House to Announce New Effort to Increase Study of Traumatic Brain Injuries in Medical Schools

There are many examples of situations that prompt increased efforts of study and learning that come about for one reason but that benefit many others.  An announcement that’s expected to be made this afternoon by First Lady Michelle Obama and officials from the Association of American Medical Colleges looks to be one of those examples.  That announcement will concern the increased focus on teaching medical students about traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD in medical schools across the United States.

Specifically, this effort is being made in response to the enormous concern regarding military personnel who are returning from deployment and who have suffered from traumatic brain injuries and/or PTSD, and it will include stepped-up efforts in sharing research and working together on clinical trials that are designed to improve the diagnosis and the treatment of these conditions.  The intended goal of this effort is to increase the capabilities of future doctors to handle these serious medical problems.

Traumatic Brain Injury Statistics

We hope that this effort that’s being launched will increase the overall effectiveness of diagnosing and treating people with these conditions, and one look at the statistics regarding traumatic brain injuries in the United States should alert anyone to the scope of the problem.  Every year, more than 50,000 people in the country die because of traumatic brain injuries, and hundreds of thousands of others face long-term disabilities because of this type of harm.

Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyers

While soldiers who suffer a traumatic brain injury while deployed will not generally have a legal cause of action against those who inflicted this injury, people who do suffer a traumatic brain injury as a result of someone else’s negligent or reckless actions may have legal rights and options that need to be pursued by way of a traumatic brain injury lawsuit.  Successful claims in this regard can lead to an award of damages that help to fund the needed care.

If you or someone you love has been harmed in this manner because of the actions of someone else, you need to seek the help of traumatic brain injury lawyers who have been successfully earning recoveries on behalf of clients for many years.  Contact the Scarlett Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.
