West Virginia Set to Begin Testing Traumatic Brain Injury Waiver Program

For many years, many people who were suffering from the lingering effects of traumatic brain injuries in West Virginia and who were under the state’s care faced the possibility of being institutionalized because of the necessity of their ongoing treatments.  Basically, the state was not going to pay for transportation or other costs associated with treating traumatic brain injury patients remotely.  However, that norm is beginning to come to an end, thanks to a new program.

After years in court, West Virginia is set to begin rolling out what is known as its Medicaid waiver program designed for traumatic brain injury patients.  Specifically, this program will allow patients suffering from this severe injury to receive treatment in their homes and in their communities as opposed to being put into institutions.  The program rollout comes after the Supreme Court in West Virginia decided in favor of moving forward with this idea.

Traumatic Brain Injury Statistics

It will be interesting to see how this program works in West Virginia and whether the ideas behind it will be attempted in other places.  Traumatic brain injury patients deserve respectful treatment, as they have already suffered immensely.  This is especially so when one considers the national statistics regarding this terrible injury.  Every year, more than 50,000 people are killed because of traumatic brain injuries and hundreds of thousands more are forced to live with long-term disabilities.

Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyers

If someone acts in a negligent or reckless manner and inflicts a traumatic brain injury on someone else, that injured person can face a lifetime of pain and struggle.  Therefore, people who have been harmed by others in this manner could file traumatic brain injury lawsuits against those responsible for these injuries in hopes of recovering damages that will help to fund their ongoing medical needs.

If you or someone you love has suffered this injury as a result of the negligent or reckless actions of someone else, you need to seek the help of traumatic brain injury lawyers who have been standing up for the rights of people in this position for many years.  Contact the Scarlett Law Group today to schedule a free initial consultation.
