Brain Injuries Caused from Falling Objects

Many people acknowledge the obvious causes of traumatic brain injuries, some of which include car, sports, and slip and fall accidents. However, many people fail to notice the other causes of TBIs that may occur, such as those caused by falling objects. In the worst cases, these kinds of accidents can lead to severe harm and even a fatality.

While some TBIs are undeniable due the severity of symptoms, others go unnoticed. This can cause serious harm to a person if he/she does not receive medical attention in a timely manner. Below is a list of signs to look for if you believe you or someone you know has a mild traumatic brain injury.

  • Loss of consciousness
  • Confusion
  • Disorientation
  • Headache
  • Difficulty thinking
  • Memory issues
  • Attention deficits
  • Mood swings
  • frustration

Although a TBI can be classified as “mild,” the results can be devastating if the injured person does not receive medical attention right away. In fact, some people can suffer permanent effects, such as memory loss, if they do not seek help immediately.

The Story of a Violinist Struck By a Falling Object in her Apartment

In New York, one woman suffered a traumatic brain injury when her landlord was renovating an area above her apartment at the Upper East Side apartment building. She claims that that these heavy renovations occurred as she was practicing the violin, when a painting fell from her wall and hit her on the head. The Manhattan Supreme court ruled that this accident seriously injured her brain which has left her unable to play her violin.

The woman filed a lawsuit for her injuries and other damages.
