California Brain Injury Association’s (CALBIA) application to join the Brain Injury Association of America (BIAA) as a Chartered State Affili-ate was unanimously approved at the Annual Board of Directors Meeting held on December 7, 2007.

The Brain Injury Association of America consists of a nationwide network of more than forty chartered state affiliates who are aligned under a mission to create a better future through brain injury prevention, research, education, and advocacy. To accomplish this shared mission, BIAA and its affiliates enter into a mutually-reinforcing affiliation agreement. The nationwide affiliate network adheres to and recognizes standards agreed upon in the affiliation agreement. As an affiliate, the California Brain Injury Association embraces the mission and vision of the national organization by promoting state and local awareness of brain injury; provides education and training to individuals with brain injury, family members, and professionals; provides accurate and timely information and resources; acts as the advocate in California to meet the needs of individuals with brain injury and family members; participates in the State Assembly meeting annually; and participates in the affiliation agreement review process every other year.

“We are very pleased to be affiliated with the BIAA and look forward to working diligently in California to develop and achieve local, state, and national goals of importance to people with brain injury in our state,” said Mark J. Ashley, Chairman of the Board of CALBIA. “This is another important step in the process of improving the lives of people with brain injury and their families.”

The California Brain Injury Association was formed in 2005 to work with the people of California to create a better future through brain injury prevention, research, education, and advocacy. As a State Affiliate of the Brain Injury Association of America, CALBIA represents all Californians who live with a lifelong disability as a result of brain injury, as well as their families, and the researchers, clinicians, and professionals who provide treatment and long term care services.
