This event, sponsored by Hannibal Clinic Health Services, will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday on the campus of the Hannibal Clinic.
The St. Louis Sprockets Stunt Bike Team will perform, doing stunts and talking to kids about the importance of wearing helmets when riding.
More than 600 bicycle and safety helmets will be given away to area youth. The first 600 kids and teens to register at the entrance will receive a free Ride Cool T-shirt.
“About 800 bicyclists die yearly in the United States; 70 to 80 percent of these deaths are caused by traumatic injury to the head,” said Dr. Justin Bubolz, pediatrician at the Hannibal Clinic. “The use of bicycle helmets and multi-sport helmets can prevent 90 percent of these brain injuries, yet only 18 percent wear their helmets all of the time when bicycling.”
Highlights of the event will be helmet fittings, bicycle safety inspections, obstacle courses, a bicycle and gear wash, giveaways, celebrity skateboard races and egg drop demonstrations.
