Autopsy Shows Taser Contributed To Lubbock Man’s Death

Minutes ago the Lubbock Medical Examiner’s office released the autopsy report for Juan Nunez III. He was the 27-year-old Lubbock man who died the night of April 16th after he was tased by Lubbock Police officer Matt Doherty.

According to the autopsy, Nunez died of alcohol intoxication and concussive brain injury due to blunt force truama complicated by post traumatic apnea. The report also states that Nunez received the blunt force trauma when he collapsed, after he was tased. Therefore, the taser contributed to his death.

The medical examiner is now calling the case a homicide. On the night of the incident, Officer Doherty was responding to a domestic disturbance. According to police reports, Doherty says Nunez’s actions caused him to use the stun gun.
